The City of Newport Beach is located in the coastal center of Orange County, with Los Angeles County to the north and San Diego County to the south. It was incorporated on September 1, 1906. Newport-Mesa Unified School District was unified on July 1, 1966. The district includes 58.83 square miles including Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Corona del Mar.
There are 32 schools and approximately 20,000 students in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. The district is comprised of 22 elementary schools, 2 intermediate schools, 2 middle/high schools, 2 high schools, 3 alternative education programs, and 1 adult education program (in partnership with Huntington Beach Adult School.)
