The City of Newport Beach is located in the coastal center of Orange County, with Los Angeles County to the north and San Diego County to the south. It was incorporated on September 1, 1906. Newport Beach is known for its stunning beaches, high-priced residential homes, modern shopping facilities, a vibrant business community, and a great school system. The city has an estimated permanent population of 87,000, but the population grows to more than 100,000 with 20,000 to 100,000 tourists daily during the summer months as a result of tourism, which is an integral part of Newport Beach.

The mild climate and beautiful beaches draw millions of visitors to Newport Beach each year. Popular attractions in the Newport Beach area include Corona del Mar State Beach, the man-made Balboa Island, historic Balboa Village, Newport Pier, the beautiful Sherman Library and Gardens, Newport Harbor Art Museum, Fashion Island, and so much more. As a popular coastal city with an abundance of water activities, its residents and visitors alike enjoy the outstanding beach, fishing, surfing, and a multitude of other aquatic activities.

Newport Beach is home to one of the largest pleasure-boat harbors in the world with approximately 4,300 boats of all types docked within the 21-square-mile harbor area.

The University of California, Irvine, is immediately northeast.

Newport-Mesa Unified School District

Newport-Mesa Unified School District was unified on July 1, 1966. The district includes 58.83 square miles including Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Corona del Mar.

There are 32 schools and approximately 20,000 students in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. The district is comprised of 22 elementary schools, 2 intermediate schools, 2 middle/high schools, 2 high schools, 3 alternative education programs, and 1 adult education program (in partnership with Huntington Beach Adult School.)
